Take the heat out of your metal-smithing with these cold connection techniques. Learn to use different types of rivets to connect metal, wood and more. Set stones and found objects with tabs and cages. Layer materials into a mixed media piece that will showcase your materials as well as your skills! Even use micro-fasteners to connect delicate materials with ease!
For this class you must have a riveting hammer and a steel block. Other tools that will be used in class are hole punch pliers, dapping block and punches, decorative/letter metal stamps, decorative finish hammers, rawhide mallet and files. If you have any of these tools, please bring them for your use. There will be some tools available for sharing. Finishing supplies are included in the class kit. You will make at least one necklace/pendant, linked bracelet stations and one pair of earrings in this class. A materials kit will be provided that includes all the pieces needed to make the basic projects, however, you are welcome to bring bits to make the pieces your own. Recommended 'bits' are things like wood pieces, pebbles, decorative tin, metal stampings, coins, etc. Even things like fabric and leather are acceptable.
MBG members $70/non-members $85. Call 636-4128 for more information or to register.
