Tour of the Garden-guest post by Ashia Aubrey

My first tour of the Garden was with my supervisor Mary Helen. It was my third week interning in the PR/Marketing department and I was going on my first tour since my last visit in elementary school. I noticed a lot had changed and more sites had been added. During the tour, I visited the ninety-six acres of property and the twenty-three gardens. I enjoyed the specular view and I was surprised to see so much of what Memphis Botanic Garden offered.

There were a couple of gardens in particular that caught my attention, like the Herb Garden and the Butterfly Garden. My Big Backyard was very cool because it one garden that had several gardens in it itself like the Idea area featuring a Gutter Garden which had a solar pump to water flowers. Also, the Asian Garden, originally the Japanese Maple Garden, was very unique. It included East Asian plants donated by Plato Touliatos that has sixty Japanese maples and concentrated geographically trees from all over the world.

That was all about my tour of the Garden. More coming up next week.
