With more than 150 different trees labeled for learning, our Level 4 Arboretum is one of our most important teaching areas.

Butterfly Garden

Butterflies flutter from Buddleia to Passion Vine and Red Honeysuckle on the Living Gazebo.

Daffodil Hill

Each year, this area marks the coming of Spring, when over 100,000 daffodils bulbs pop up under the massive oaks.

Hyde and Seek Prehistoric Plant Trail

Children can explore and discover ancient plants, fossils and petrified wood. There is a cave for exploring, dinosaurs for climbing, and a mini fossil site complete with digging tools.

Herb Garden

The new Herb Garden is a global garden representing different herbal traditions from around the world. Smell your way through herbs used for making medicines and foods all around the world.

Iris Garden

Its planting in 1953 marked the beginning of Memphis Botanic Garden. Tennessee’s state flower, the purple iris, is on display as well as many other varieties selected especially for this region.

Japanese Garden

Visitors become immersed in Japanese culture as they stroll through and view the half-moon bridge, koi pond, bonsai trees, and other features rich in symbolism and folklore.

Sensory Garden

Designed to celebrate the senses, it is comprised of plantings, sculpture, and fountains. Many of the beds are planted at wheelchair height to accommodate the many special needs groups that visit this engaging garden.

Wildflower Woodland

The 4-acre area features a representative collection of native plants as well as newly-developed cultivars of Southeastern natives.

Note: Tours do not include visiting the Children's Garden. Please see My Big Backyard Programs if you are interested in this garden.
