Outreach: Pre-K and Kindergarten

During the preschool years, children develop lifelong attitudes towards nature that can last a lifetime. Our Sprouting Out! programs introduce preschoolers to the wonders of the natural world. It is our hope that their time with us will foster a sense of wonder and stewardship for the world around them. Each forty-five minute class includes a show-and-tell, a movement activity, and a hands-on craft project.

Program fee is $75 for one, or $65 each when two or more programs are conducted the same day.


Fun with Flowers

See your students' imaginations "bloom" as they learn about flowers!

  • Explore flower parts from roots to petals with our flower costume.
  • Create a "kool" flower craft.
  • Plant seeds in a take-home flower pot.

Terrific Trees

Explore the wonder of these mighty giants.

  • Follow the journey of Oakley the Acorn from seed to tree.
  • Learn about how trees help the earth and all of its creatures.
  • Act out the life cycle of a seed and make a tree product necklace.

Wiggly Worms and Diggity Dirt

Learn all about these critters that wiggle their way through the dirt!

  • Wiggle around as we learn the parts of a worm.
  • Get a close-up look at a real worm.
  • Make a worm tunnel magnet maze.

Beautiful Butterflies

Discover the wonders of our most colorful and beautiful insects.

  • Lean about the butterfly life cycle.
  • Sip "nectar" from a "flower" like a butterfly.
  • Create a painted butterfly ring.

Buzz, Buzz. Bees

Learn about these busy insects that help our gardens grow.

  • Learn the parts of a bee while making a bee puppet.
  • Taste different flavors of honey.
  • Buzz around while doing a bee dance.

What's a Fruit, What's a Veggie?

Your little sprouts will discover the bascis of fruits and veggies from A-Z, or aparagus to zucchini!

  • Make a fruit and veggie puppet.
  • Play a matching game with common fruits and vegetables.
  • Grow a "salad" in your classroom.
 

Our Feathered Friends

Soar to new heights with backyard birds.

  • Learn all about feathers, feet, nests, and beaks.
  • Match up birds and their eggs.
  • Make a bird buddy.
